Where Does Shea Butter Come From?

Shea butter comes from West Africa and East Africa (the Sahel Region) from the shea tree or karite tree.  It has been used for many hundreds of years for skincare.  It is also edible and can be used for cooking too.  It is drawn from the nut that grows on this tree; extracted from the kernels within and pounded to a pulp, heated and the fat retrieved and the toxins removed

Benefits Of Shea Butter For The Skin

There are many skin benefits when it comes to shea butter:-

  • It is widely used for its moisturising ability.  Being rich in fatty acids:  linoleic, oleic, stearic, and palmitic acids, they restore the lipids to the skin which in turn stores moisture or attracts it.  And it won't make your skin feel oily but rather gets quickly absorbed due to these afore mentioned acids in it.
  • Rich in anti-oxidants, it helps the skin defend itself from free radicals thus keeping off the premature ageing process.
  • It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties in it and has been known to help significantly in the treatment of acne
  • It makes the skin feel plumper and may help in reducing wrinkles

Many people have  tried our butter body which contains high levels of shea butter on their feet and elbows and arms and with great results.   We have many testimonials extoling its virtues

"Really rich body butter

I love this body butter. I have very dry skin which can become quite itchy, especially on my shins. The body butter melts in the hands to become a silky oil that applies, and is absorbed, easily. I really like the fresh scent of lemon. It was my second choice as the other option I had wanted at the time was out of stock. I will be re-ordering this product from Heart Works. Based on my current experience, I will also try other products. Excellent."

Body butter with shea butter

Our lip balms have at least 40% shea butter in them and have proven to be extremely moisturising as a result  (see testimonial below)

I love the lip balm. It isn't overpowering or synthetic, feels so natural & protects my lips when I'm cycling or running in the cold weather. Fantastic product"
