If you want a gift set for the complete body we have more elaborate gift sets of natural skincare or an even bigger gift set of natural skincare. The most economic one would be from our natural skincare in tray. We also have hamper sets of natural skincare available in many different fragrances
We make all our skincare in small batches thus ensuring the high quality of each product. Nothing is made on mass or outside of us. We take care of everything from the making of a lot of our boxes to the elaboration of soap in molds and from lip balm to hand cream.
]]>We have anything from lip balm to natural soap with this fragrance and a number of our gift sets are ylang ylang themed coming in either trays, boxes or hamper boxes
We call it lavender and frankincense delight natural soap. because it is a delight to open the box and see a soap that has a greenish appearance. This is owing to the spirulina that we use in the making of the soap.
Spirulina is an algae of greenish/bluish tint. It is a medicinal plant and has many benefits to your health. But it isn't for this reason that we put it into our soap. It is really for effect and colour. As it is natural, we can alter the natural colour of the soap without compromising our promise that our soaps are all natural and handmade with no artificial ingredients
]]>Is rosemary essential oil really good for memory loss? Well its reputation of improving memory has been around a long time and it is widely known that it enhances thought processes and brings about mental clarity. It is a major stimulant for the brain and the whole nervous system.
It has been recommended for students who are studying for some major exam or other and need their brains working at full capacity. Or for someone about to go into an interview, say for an important job, and who need to remember all the facts they need to say during this interview.
While it is a very powerful stimulant for the brain and nervous system, taking too much can cause fits such as epileptic. It has fierce penetrating qualities about it and a little goes a long way. All that is needed is a few drops. Probably the best way to use it is in a diffuser or essential oil burner.
Rosemary on a try full of potatoes and roasted in the oven is something that makes my mouth water. It is a wonderful herb to use in any kitchen and it dries very well for storage. It grows super well in Ireland even though its a coastal Mediterranean plant. No garden or kitchen should be without it.

First you get a bar of shaving soap. This can either come in its own container or you can put it on a soap dish. Shaving cream can also do but I personally think that soap is milder and gentler on the skin
Then you take your brush and wet it a little and then dab it into the soap until you've gathered up enough soap to do the next part
With brush in hand rub the brush onto the area you want to shave. This probably will be the face, cheeks, neck and jaw. Make sure you're managed to get a good creamy lather going. Smother the area with the creamy suds.
Now take your razor and holding it firmly but gently working with the hair rather than against. This is to avoid cuts, irritations and razor bumps. Each time you take a stroke downwards (with the hair) rinse the razor off and go again.
Finally rinse in lots of warm water.
If you like you can use an aftershave balm. You can also use our beard balm which doubles up as an aftershave balm.
At Heartworks, we have just the gift to give your partner or friend this Xmas. A Shaving Gift Set with brush, razor, razor blades, shaving soap, regular body soap and lip balm. We make the shaving soap, the regular body soap and the lip balms ourselves. The rest, razor and blades and brush, we buy in.

We use only the finest ingredients in our shampoo bars and we have two types: 1. For normal to Dry Hair and 2. For Normal to Oily Hair. If your hair is normal enough (Define normal I hear you ask!) then either type is perfectly okay to use.
Ingredients in the Normal to Dry Hair
Coconut Oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Olive Oil
Jojoba Oil
Castor Oil
Kukui Nut Oil
Ingredients in the Normal to Oily Hair
Olive Oil
Coconut Oil
Castor Oil
Jojoba Oil
Shea Butter
Sweet Almond Oil
Apricot Kernel Oil
Avocado Oil
You will notice that both types of shampoo bar have some common ingredients such as olive olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil and sweet almond oil but the one that is key here is the castor oil. This thick oil is really amazing for its thickness. This thickness is what gives the creamy texture to the lather.
It's this creamy texture that coats the hair and lubricates the strands and allows the body to absorb the goodness of this shampoo into the hair follicles. When rinsing the hair its this same creamy and thick lather that will take all dirt and impurities away leaving your hair squeaky clean, conditioned and moisturised.

]]>The bog has peat and peat has properties that are good for your skin. It is reputed to do the following:-
In our natural handmade soap, we have it in the soap, not so much for these qualities above as for the colour it adds to the soap. You might get the benefits as stated above but it being a wash up product that benefit would be to a minimum. But we love the way our soap looks with this peat, or piece of bog, in it. I put the peat in the oven for half an hour at 110 degrees C to allow any bacteria to die off and also to dry the peat which I can then put through a sieve to get a nice fine dust suitable for adding to my soap at the making stage
It's the soap with the dark specks in it and it's overall appearance is grayish here in this picture.
Peat is not the only ingredient in our bar of citronella and pine with peat. I'll give you two guesses as to what else might be in there! That's right - Citronella essential oil and pine essential oil. Of course the base oils have to be included and they are;-
In the end, you get a fresh smelling excellent quality handmade natural soap that has a bit of the bog in it!!! And it's not the only variety we have. Check out our natural handmade soap
]]>Lemony lip balm is a great one especially for winter. That is it is better in winter than in summer when the sun is shining. Lemon can react with the sun. In winter, we don't have to worry so much about the sun. Besides, it is uplifting and that's exactly what you need in winter
At Heartworks, we have 6 types of lip balm which differ by the fragrance. But they all have a few things in common with regard to ingredients. They all have coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax. What differentiates one from the other is the fragrance, which are:-
Peppermint
Lavender
Unscented
Lemony
Orange, patchouli and cedarwood
Ylang ylang and grapefruit
The beeswax is quite predominant as well in terms of fragrance and of course the beeswax is responsible largely for this product being very moisturising and protecting.
So if you want those lemony lips go for the one with lemon essential oil and lemongrass essential oil. If you want one to help you relax why not try the lavender. In fact why not try them all or check them all out at our beeswax lip balm page

We'll be, where we always are, in the Experience Offaly Pavilion which will showcase all that Offaly has to offer; crafts, tourism and food. There will be music as well. It really is a lovely set up there with everyone very enthusiastic about what lies behind the face of Offaly. You'll be surprised that there are so many talented craftspeople, so many interesting innovative micro to medium companies and what there is to do in Offaly.
My mother put the fear of God into us when little about bog holes. As children, we didn't dare go near the bog area which was only a field or two away from our house. There was an unspoken barrier there not to be crossed.
Although the bog is truly beautiful, an amazing place, and there's plenty of it in Offaly, it's not the only place to visit. Come to the Experience Offaly Pavilion and find out for yourself.
Last year, in the Experience Offaly Pavilion, there was a great big lad, who disassembled whiskey barrels a few times during the day only to erect them again. I must say, it was a rather noisy affair. But he certainly got enough attention
Anyway, we do hope to see you all there. We'll be there with our natural skincare and our slate home and garden wares.

They do have to move alright in the process. Unless one is a ventriloquist those lips are involved in getting out the cheeky remarks. But they are not to blame. It's the brain and the teenager's attitude that should be under scrutiny. So instead of saying "none of you lip" next time why don't you try "none of your teenage attitude here, missy!! You know where the door is" Leave them lips out of it. They have other more interesting uses

If you look after yourself, eat well, get plenty of exercise and fresh air, drink lots of water, refrain from sugary drinks, try not to take in too many toxins into the body, above all don't smoke, enjoy alcohol sensibly. keep yourself fairly trim and fit, look after your mental health, believe in yourself, be kind to yourself, be honest with yourself, maintain awareness of yourself, that's all that matters. Beauty is far too overrated. Peace of mind and a healthy respect for oneself and others is far more important along with self-awareness
And instead of asking a mirror what it thinks, why not work on your own opinion of yourself. If it's a bit negative then you must find a way to turn it around. So what if your skin is sagging a bit around the face. A little bit of face cream and massage might sort that out. There are exercises to tighten up the neck and jowls. Google it!!. Yoga also helps. So what if you've too much fat around the tummy and hips - nothing that diet and exercise can't fix. Do something about it!! Go for a walk, take the bike out for a spin, go for a jog, join the gym. So what if your eyes are the wrong colour. They'll never be the right colour so just accept the colour of your eyes, the texture of your skin, the quality of your hair - go and find out how to fix your hair if it's limp and lifeless. Again google might help. There are lots of herbs and natural remedies out there that help strengthen hair, nails, skin and teeth. There are remedies for everything. If you want to change something about yourself that's doable, then do it. If you can't change it then be happy with it.
Do a bit of soul searching instead of asking mirror on the wall who's the fairest of them all!!! Those questions never end well

1. Cleanser: Regardless of your skin type, cleansing should be the first step in your daily skincare routine. A good cleanser removes dirt, oil, makeup residues without stripping off essential oils from your face. Check out our facial oil cleanser
2. Toner: Toners balance the pH level of your skin after cleansing and prepare it for better absorption of other skincare products.
3. Moisturiser: Hydration is key for all types of skins - even for those who have oily complexions! A moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day by locking in moisture. Try out our night face cream which is particularly moisturising and hydrating
4. Sunscreen: Sun damage is one of the leading causes of premature aging signs like wrinkles and dark spots. Hence applying sunscreen with at least SPF 30 should be an indispensable part of your daily routine.
5. Exfoliator: Exfoliation helps remove dead cells from the surface layer of your skin revealing a brighter complexion underneath. However, over-exfoliation can lead to irritation so limit this step to once or twice a week depending on how sensitive your skin is.
Washing your face with just water is often referred to as "water-only washing" or "rinse-only method". This method involves rinsing your face with warm water (not hot) once or twice a day without using any soap or cleanser.
This method can be beneficial for those who have extremely sensitive skin that reacts negatively to even the mildest cleansers. It's also an excellent option if you're looking for a more natural approach to skincare without any chemicals or synthetic ingredients involved.
However, keep in mind that while this method may help maintain hydration levels in your skin, it might not be effective at removing heavy makeup or deeply ingrained dirt and oil from your pores.
Just recently I was involved in a play which meant lots of make up. The only way to get rid of that make up was to get a nice soapy cloth using our natural handmade soap and with closed eyes rubbing away the make up. It proved very effective. Afterwards I just put on a moisturising face cream
What you get from a bar of our soap is a lasting bar with a lovely sudsy lather. This is due to the amount of olive oil in the soap as well as the fine oils of sweet almond, coconut and shea butter
Did you know we use the cold process soap method? This involves heating the oils to a certain temperature (around 95 degrees Fahrenheit or 35 degrees Celcius) and having the lye (water with sodium hydroxide) at more or less the same temperature. This part is very important because if the oils or lye are too hot they might react badly. If they are too cold they might not work at all. When making the soap, I am extremely focused and intent on getting the ingredients measured correctly as well as the sodium hydroxide.
Before starting out on my creation of the next batch of Irish handmade soap, I take a few deep breaths, I tell myself to be more than aware of each process and I make sure my phone is away from me and any other distraction that could cause me to lose concentration. I think that I don't pay half as much attention to any other products that I make as I do for the soap. I don't have a machine to tell me what to do or what the next step is. It's all down to me!! And If I don't measure correctly the soap could end up being a disaster. Here is a video where you get to see some of the soap-making process
Our Irish handmade soaps come in 7 varieties: lemongrass with poppy seed, lavender & frankincense with seaweed, patchouli & palm rosa, spicy cinnamon, citronella & pine with peat, eucalyptus & rosemary, and ylang ylang with honey & oatmeal
We use some ingredients such as oatmeal, or spices or even ground-up frankincense in our handmade soaps. All the fragrances derive from pure essential oils thus making this Irish handmade soap also as natural as can be.
I haven't really spoken about each process of the Irish handmade soap because that's my secret and I'd have to shoot you if I were to give you my secret recipe and method!! Now we don't want to be doing that, do we? Try it for yourself. You'll never go back to liquid soap in stupid plastic bottles or cheap store=bought soap.

2. Exfoliating
Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, which can help improve texture and tone. It also helps unclog pores and prevent breakouts. There are two types of exfoliation: physical (using a scrub or brush) or chemical (using acids such as glycolic acid). Choose one that works best for your skin type and use it no more than twice a week. You can also use some of our mild soaps with exfoliating substances in them. Have a look at our natural handmade soap
3. Moisturising
Moisturizing is important in any skincare routine because it helps keep your skin hydrated and prevents dryness or flaking. Look for moisturisers with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which will help lock in moisture without making your skin feel greasy or heavy. Try out our night face cream. A daily dose of it will improve your skin quality enormously. Make sure to apply moisturiser after cleansing and exfoliating while your skin is still damp for maximum absorption.
4. Sun Protection
Sun protection is essential for keeping your skin healthy and preventing premature aging caused by sun damage such as wrinkles, dark spots, and sagging skin. Look for a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher that offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays (UVA rays cause wrinkles while UVB rays cause sunburns). Apply sunscreen every day before going outside—even on cloudy days—and reapply every two hours if you’re spending time outdoors or sweating heavily.
5. Antioxidants
Antioxidants are powerful compounds found in certain foods that help protect against free radical damage caused by environmental stressors like pollution or UV radiation from the sun. Look for products with antioxidants like vitamin C or green tea extract to help protect against premature aging caused by free radicals while also brightening dull-looking skin over time. Antioxidants can also be found in certain foods like blueberries, spinach, kale, and dark chocolate! You know what they say! - Your are what you eat!!!
Conclusion
These five basics are essential for keeping your skin healthy and looking its best! Make sure to incorporate them into your daily skincare routine—you’ll be glad you did!
Massage has long been used to reduce stress and improve circulation. It can also help stimulate collagen production in the face by increasing blood flow to the area. This increased blood flow brings more oxygen and nutrients to the cells, which helps them regenerate faster and produce more collagen. Additionally, massage can help break down existing collagen fibers which encourages new ones to form. Try our night face cream to help with your daily massage. It's full of skin loving oils and will enhance your massage efforts
The main difference between face wash and cleanser is the type of ingredients they contain. Face washes typically contain surfactants, which are cleansing agents that help remove dirt and oil from your skin. Cleansers, on the other hand, usually contain emollients that help to hydrate and nourish your skin.
Another difference between face wash and cleanser is how they are used. Face washes are typically used as part of a daily cleansing routine while cleansers are usually used as part of a weekly deep-cleaning routine. This means that if you want to keep your skin looking its best, you should use both products in conjunction with each other.
Face washes can be beneficial for those with oily or acne-prone skin because they help remove excess oil from the surface of your skin. They also help to unclog pores and remove dirt and debris from your face, which can help reduce breakouts. Additionally, many face washes contain ingredients such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide that can help reduce inflammation caused by acne. I will suggest here now that if you are using a face wash, why not use a natural soap and rinse off thoroughly after? Natural soap is much milder for your skin than some of those cheap alternatives that very often don't even have soap in them. Try some of our natural handmade soaps. You can also leave this part of your daily facial cleansing out and simply skip ahead to the facial oil cleanser
Cleansers are great for those with dry or sensitive skin because they provide hydration without stripping natural oils from the surface of your skin like some face washes can do. Additionally, many cleansers contain antioxidants such as vitamin C or green tea extract that can help protect your skin from environmental damage caused by free radicals. Furthermore, using a cleanser once a week helps to deeply cleanse your pores and remove any buildup of dirt and debris that may be causing breakouts or clogging pores. Our facial oil cleansers come in 8 varieties. For people with very oily skin you might try the facial oil cleanser with lemon and lemongrass or for those with dry skin, why not try out our lavender and frankincense, which is great for dry mature skin
Which Product Should You Choose?
Ultimately, it depends on what type of skin you have and what kind of results you want to achieve with your skincare routine. If you have oily or acne-prone skin then using a face wash every day will likely give you better results than just using a cleanser once a week. However, if you have dry or sensitive skin then using both products in conjunction with each other will give you the best results since it will provide both deep cleansing and hydration benefits for your complexion.
If you use foundation make-up daily then it might be a better idea to use face wash first and then a facial oil cleanser to finish it off. Or else apply facial oil cleanser twice, once to remove dirt and second time to really give your face a deep cleansing. It's up to you!!!

When it comes to skin care, there are many different opinions on what is best for your face. Some people swear by using a cleanser, while others prefer to use soap. But is it really good to use soap on your face? In this blog post, we’ll explore the pros and cons of using soap on your face so you can make an informed decision about what’s best for you.
The Benefits of Using Soap on Your Face
There are several benefits to using soap on your face. One of the main advantages is that it is usually much cheaper than other facial cleansers. Soap is also easy to find and can be purchased at almost any store. Additionally, soap can be used as a gentle exfoliant, which helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. This can help reduce acne breakouts and give you a brighter complexion.
The Drawbacks of Using Soap on Your Face
While there are some benefits to using soap on your face, there are also some drawbacks that should be considered before making the switch from a facial cleanser. One of the main drawbacks is that most soaps contain harsh chemicals that can strip away natural oils from the skin and leave it feeling dry and tight. Additionally, some soaps may contain fragrances or dyes that can irritate sensitive skin or cause breakouts in those with acne-prone skin.
What Type of Soap Should You Use?
If you decide to use soap on your face, it’s important to choose one that is specifically designed for facial use. Look for soaps that are labeled as “gentle” or “for sensitive skin” and avoid those with fragrances or dyes if possible. You should also look for soaps with moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin or shea butter, which will help keep your skin hydrated after cleansing.
Conclusion
Using soap on your face can be beneficial in some cases, but it’s important to choose the right type of soap and use it correctly in order to avoid potential problems such as dryness or irritation. If you have sensitive skin or suffer from acne breakouts, it may be best to stick with a gentle facial cleanser instead of switching over to soap completely. Ultimately, the decision is up to you – just make sure you do your research before making any changes!

Here, at Heartworks, we don't use any water in any of our natural skincare products. This isn't because of any other reason other than with water in the mix you then have to introduce a preservative. Natural preservatives are available but we prefer to stay clear of them. So all our products are oil-based only.
There's nothing quite like an oil to properly clean the skin. It seems to get into every nook and cranny and drag out all the dirt and grime of the skin. See our facial oil cleansers for more information on this.
And you can't beat a body butter with its calendula oil and beeswax for putting on those dry cracked heals or elbows or even hands. Our hand cream is really a body butter re-labeled as it offers the same type of protection and moisturising properties owing to its calendula and beeswax addition.
Then we offer a lip balm that really does what it is supposed to. It is made up of coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax along with essential oils for flavour and/or scent. Note the presence of beeswax in a lot of our products. Beeswax is such a healing, protective and moisturising substance that we found it difficult to leave it out.
So basically, the difference between a cream and a salve can be very little and open to interpretation. I would immediately say the difference is that a salve has a lot more wax in it, is firmer, and more dense. The difference between a lotion and a balm might be that one is water-in-oil or with no water (Balm) and the other is oil-in-water. It's all open to interpretation nowadays
]]>And how is it better for your skin? Besides being more eco-friendly and kinder to the environment natural fibres are breathable, resistant to molds, and durable. Being breathable makes them the no 1 choice for people who are allergic to many things as they are hypoallergenic and have many antibacterial properties
Other natural fibres, not already mentioned, are bamboo and hemp. Bamboo is made from the bamboo plant and makes a very soft, absorbable, and breathable material that is great in the making of clothes, sanitary towels, bath towels, and reusable nappies. It is also antibacterial. Hemp is made from the cannabis plant and like hemp is breathable, antibacterial, absorbable, and resistant to mold.
There's hardly any need to extol the virtues of cotton, silk and linen, is there? Their incredible strength as fabrics, and their absorbability, especially cotton, linen, and wool, is second to none. They keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. They allow your skin to breathe. They keep unwanted bacteria at bay. It's no wonder that the most desirable sheets on your bed are either cotton or linen
Linen is the oldest fabric and no wonder it is still around today. It comes from the flax plant and has been used for centuries as the no 1 in clothing, tablecloths, tea towels, and bed sheets. It is such a strong fabric and so washable, durable, and breathable.
Synthetic fibres, on the other hand, are usually riddled with chemicals and toxins, they don't last at all, and they make you sweaty, hot, and bothered under the collar. They entice bacteria and cause all kinds of itching and scratching. Many people have allergic reactions to them. They don't allow the skin to breathe normally and can cause rashes on the skin.
So next time you're out buying clothes, think about this:- Do I want this garment to be breathable? Do I want it to keep me warm in winter but cool in summer? Do I cause any damage to the environment by buying this product? Will it keep my skin feeling normal and ward off any unwanted bacteria? Is this garment going to cause an itch on my skin? Are there lots of chemicals and toxin gone into the making of the material? Ask yourself these questions and when you answer them you will go for the natural fabrics for your bedding, personal hygiene, household goods, and especially the clothes you put on your back. Let your skin breathe!!

What I did was use my own night face cream (Oh, here she goes blowing her own trumpet). Seriously, I kept putting it on every two hours - just a little dab and rubbed it in really well. The dryness was still there after 2 hours but it had softened. After another application and a wait of another two hours, it was even softer and then after 6 hours it had almost disappeared and was coming back to normal. Within 12 hours there was an insignificant dryness there.
Our face creams are packed with skin-loving oils that moisturise even the driest of skin
If you have jojoba oil in the house you can also use that or, indeed, a combination of jojoba and sweet almond. Both these oils will be great for tackling dry patches. Be consistent and apply these every two hours until that patch goes away.
If you have to use foundation on your face, be sure to use a good facial oil cleanser to wipe it off before going to bed. You might need two applications of the facial oil cleanser to have the face very clean so that the skin can breathe overnight.
Give your skin a good massage daily. Probably the best time for this is before bed at night or after the shower or first thing in the morning. Massages really get the blood flowing and bring the necessary vitamins and minerals to the skin and help clean out toxins and help the skin moisturise itself
If you follow the above instructions, I would easily say that you could kiss goodbye to dry patches on the face and also your face will be all a glow!!!
]]>Other oils that I love to use for the face are
All of these oils in combination are super for your face. I believe that putting them all together is a very efficient way of improving your skin and complexion. Some of them are high in vitamin c, others in vitamin e, and using all together ensures that you're getting all minerals and vitamins your skin needs
]]>Only too often are we bombarded with an idea of beauty that we can never possibly achieve. But beauty is not just these things; the glamour, the wonderful figure, the youthful skin, the shiny hair, the full lips, the curvy hips, the muscle, the masculine beard, the biceps that bulge through the shirt and the cool haircut. Beauty, a rare thing, is and should be only important to the person, themself, and not the onlookers. What good is it to be beautiful and not know it or feel it? How awful is it if everyone thinks you're beautiful and you, yourself, think you're ugly and unworthy? Why should we aspire to this beauty that advertising throws our way? The female models in these advertising campaigns are either so thin that it's impossible to attain that measure of "slenderness" or they have the most remarkable faces, without a blemish or wrinkle. The amount of masking makeup they have on can contribute to this "beauty" in a big way but in general, they are, in fact, exceptionally beautiful to look at. Exceptional is the operative word here. We can't all have the perfect nose, mouth, cheekbones and general facial bone structure to render us beautiful. In the case of male models, who too have exceptional faces, sometimes have so much muscle that it will become a problem into the future to maintain all this mass. What do impressionable teenagers think about all this? What teenage boys and young males, in general, are learning here is that it is desirable to be big, muscular, and strong. What teenage girls and females, in general, are learning is to be as thin as a whip, to have fantastic eyebrows and long eyelashes, etc. It might be changing recently and turning on its head where beauty in women now is all about their big behind!!! So if you don't happen to possess a big backside does that mean you're not part of the beauty brigade?
But there's another kind of beauty; inner beauty, a beauty which, if acknowledged by its owner, by oneself, will shine through, will leak out of every pore, will show in every gesture, will strengthen your posture and your pose, will ooze out with your every breath, will break down barriers, will defy the acquired perception of "beauty", will make every onlooker see it and its purity. It's the kind of beauty that screams out from the soul, it's a quiet beauty in that it is confident and self-assured. It's never-ending, it's infectious, it's in every atom of your being, it's boundless, it's your expression of yourself. But you have to know it, feel it, and let it come forth. In the end, beauty is your knowing yourself and not being afraid to show it off because it is worthy. Beauty is love, especially love for oneself, and love is beautiful.
