The Use of Oils On Your Face

The Use of Oils For Your Face

Some say that you can't use oil to either clean you face or moisturise it or, indeed, to counteract oiliness on your skin but I beg to differ!

OIL FOR CLEANSING THE FACE

One would be forgiven for thinking that you need a harsh cloth and some good old fashioned soap to get the face really clean.  While, there's nothing wrong with this, one should consider a combination of the above (forget the harsh cloth though with a softer one doing the perfect job) and a facial oil cleanser.  A facial oil cleanser, with lots of skin loving oils and ones to help remove dirt and greases in the pores is the perfect way to finish off your face cleansing routine.  Some good oils for cleansing the face are :-

  • Sunflower oil  which is non comedogenic so won't clog up the pores.  Its linoleic acid content makes it a great support to the skin's outer layer protecting it and thus keeping valuable moisture in.
  • Castor Oil which promotes overall skin health.  With its anti-bacterial properties it is great for oily  or acne prone skin.  It is astringent so it pulls out impurities from the pores.  It also leaves the skin feeling silky after an application of it
  • Golden Jojoba oil is a wonderful oil for both dry and oily skin.  With oily skin, it stops the over production of sebum and with dry skin, it's a great hydrator for the skin

OIL FOR MOISTURISING AND HYDRATING FACIAL SKIN

After having cleansed the face, we're now ready for a good old application of some face cream with moisturising and hydrating properties.  This might include a cream with a combination of various different skin loving oils:-

  • Apricot Kernel Oil
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Avocado Oil

All of these oils above mentioned are non comedogenic  which means they won't clog up the pores.  They all have wonderful properties for the skin, packed with vitamins and minerals essential for healthy skin.

In addition, there are other "super" oils that can be added:-

  • Jojoba oil, wonderful for both oily and dry skin
  • Evening Primrose
  • Vitamin E
  • Aloe Vera Butter
  • Rose hip

All the above, give an extra dimension to the cream you will put on your face and will contribute to healthy, acne free skin.

Essential Oils For Your Face Cream

I list hereunder some of the wonderful essential oils that can be used along with the other oils.  They should make up only about 1% though as they can also cause allergies especially to those with sensitive skin

  • Grapefruit
  • Patchouli
  • Lavender
  • Bergamot
  • Sweet Orange Blossom
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Palma Rosa
  • Frankincense
  • Cedarwood

All of the above could be used for all skin types or dry skin.  For oily skin essential oils such as hereunder listed can be used:-

  • Lemon
  • Grapefruit
  • Bergamot
  • Sweet Orange
