You know when you get burned from the sun, there is a belief that putting cucumber on the affected area will relieve symptoms. Well that is because cucumbers contains ascorbic acid and caffeic acid which prevent water retention. Therefore it is beneficial for burns, dermatitis and swollen parts such as the eyes.
Cucumber is very rich in silica, which is a trace mineral and contributes to the strength of your connective tissue. Connective tissue is holding our bodies together. It involves the muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, bone and the intracellular cement. Without silica the connective tissue would be improperly constructed and would leave the connective tissue impaired and damaged. Because skin is made up of connective tissue eating lots of cucumber daily will help improve your skin's elasticity. Also one final point about cucumber is that it is very high in vitamins a, c and folic acid which your skin also need to be healthy.
