Bog Soap
Bog Soap??? What kind of soap is that? Well, it's the kind of natural handmade soap that has some peat in it. Yes, you heard right. Peat from the bog. Seeing as we're from the bog here in Tullamore, we might as well make soap with the local ingredients, isn't that true? Natural Irish Soap using the finest Irish Ingredients
Properties of Peat In Skincare
The bog has peat and peat has properties that are good for your skin. It is reputed to do the following:-
- Boosts collagen production
- Protects the skin from free radicals
- Cleanses and detoxifies
- Helps to get rid of signs of skin damage
- Boosts blood flow
- Tightens Pores
- Increases skin elasticity and cell turnover
Adding Peat to the Handmade Natural Soap
In our natural handmade soap, we have it in the soap, not so much for these qualities above as for the colour it adds to the soap. You might get the benefits as stated above but it being a wash up product that benefit would be to a minimum. But we love the way our soap looks with this peat, or piece of bog, in it. I put the peat in the oven for half an hour at 110 degrees C to allow any bacteria to die off and also to dry the peat which I can then put through a sieve to get a nice fine dust suitable for adding to my soap at the making stage
It's the soap with the dark specks in it and it's overall appearance is grayish here in this picture.
Citronella and Pine with Peat Natural Soap
Peat is not the only ingredient in our bar of citronella and pine with peat. I'll give you two guesses as to what else might be in there! That's right - Citronella essential oil and pine essential oil. Of course the base oils have to be included and they are;-
- Olive Oil
- Coconut Oil
- Sweet Almond Oil
- Shea Butter
In the end, you get a fresh smelling excellent quality handmade natural soap that has a bit of the bog in it!!! And it's not the only variety we have. Check out our natural handmade soap
