Body Butter or Body Balm?

So which is it? Body butter or body balm? We call it body butter. Some other natural skincare companies might call it body balm. The answer is that both versions are correct and are used with equal frequency. Maybe body butter wins over body balm?

Calendula & Beeswax Body Butter

The balm for your body is named as such because there is the notion that it is healing and soothing. The word "balm" conjures up the words "salve" or "ointment". A thick oil-based substance. And butter? Well, a body balm or body butter is made up of lots of hard oils such as cocoa butter or shea butter. Our body butter, as well as containing the very healing homemade calendula oil, contains these hard oils; cocoa butter, shea butter, along with coconut oil (also hard). Besides all these wonderfully moisturising oils, we have sweet almond oil and apricot kernel oil. Of course, a body balm or a body butter wouldn't be the same without beeswax. Beeswax has also many healing properties. It is anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory but it also is a humectant, attracting much-needed moisture to the skin, not to mention the protective barrier it creates.

A body butter or body balm is used more for very dry patches in the body. For example, on very dry elbows or feet. It is more a rescue remedy than its lotion counterpart. They usually have some scent or other but they can be unscented. If you would like to know more about our body butter please go to Calendula & Beeswax Body Butter
