2021 - A GREAT YEAR FOR COWSLIPS
2021 - A GREAT YEAR FOR COWSLIPS
So far this year, we've had snowdrops, crocusses, lesser celandine, primroses, dandelions, wild garlic, bluebells, green alkanet, hawthorn blossoms, apple blossoms, cherry blossoms and many more. We even have the rhododendron blossoms out already. But what is particularily striking about this year is the amount of cowslips to be found in the fields. More amazing is how long they have stayed with us. Now it's end of May and they are still with us.
Behind our house is a very large field and dotted all around it are these amazing clumps of cowslips. They must be very hardy to have survived the cold of this year's May with temperatures going down to 1 and 2 many nights
I don't know about you but cowslips remind me of my childhood and the carefree late spring /early summer trips down the fields at the back of the house. We used to be gone all evening and wouldn't come home until our tummies started rumbling and it was time for supper. I acquired my love for cowslips back then and have never lost it.
